 Selecting the right finish level can be a vexing process and with the concrete coating industry trending more and more to seamless, low maintenance finishes, polished concrete and stains have quickly modernized the decorative coating industry, cresting advantages that characterize both customization and permanence.

A highly specialized process, polished concrete technology involves diamonds and fine- grit polishing discs to gradually refine the substrate until desired level of finish achieved. Although effectively standardized by a progressive or disc-interval process, the technology and application invariably require a trained and experienced eye. This is because each and every substrate will vary, thus presenting differentiated levels of imperfections.

In this way, polished concrete technology is application specific, but specifically designed to remove imperfections from any substrate, regardless of existing condition. For example, this technology can remove pits and depressions, thereby exposing the original aggregate. This allows the substrate to be thoroughly cleaned, colored or stained, then sealed; wielding a smooth, high-luster finish that is both impervious and permanent with increased reflectivity.

Additionally, polishing concrete eliminates porosity while hardening the surface and creating better resistance to spills and/or stains. A densifier may also be employed to further strengthen the substrate. By design, polished concrete systems reduce maintenance cost impacts and simply increase longevity or the useful life cycle of the floor.

Also, among unlimited color and staining options, are profile patterns and non-skid additives. More specifically, the substrate may be profiled or scored to simulate a tile or marble pattern, then stained and sealed with a broadcast additive, such as crushed glass to create a skid-resistant and safe surface.
